Barangay captain Abdulhalim Maranie Hatain of Barangay Linuan in the province of Basilan earns praises online because of his simple lifestyle.

A Facebook user named Haries Sahibul Taha has shared the simple lifestyle of the barangay chief and went viral. 

Taha described the barangay captain as an ordinary person with a big heart towards other people and he do not use the money to improve his home or to purchase equipment but he is using it to help his constituents instead. READ MORE

Six Tuguegarao City drug-cleared barangays given cash incentives. Six barangays in this city will receive cash incentives from the local government for being declared as drug-cleared barangays by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing program.

The city government will give P500,000 cash incentive to the first five drug-cleared barangays and P300,000 for the succeeding barangays to motivate them to sustain their status according to Mayor Jefferson Soriano.

The mayor said, the first five barangays will be determined on the basis of the date of submission and approval of the barangay anti-drug program plans to the city government.

Barangay volunteer workers in Tuba, Benguet gets cash assistance.   The Municipal Council of Tuba in Benguet has approved an ordinance that institutionalizes P1,000 cash assistance for barangay workers and volunteers to recognize their hard work and service to their respective barangays. 

The ordinance covers all persons employed as volunteer health workers, nutrition scholars, Lupong Tagapamayapa members, tanod, and child development workers of the 13 barangays in Tuba.

Funding will be sourced from the regular budget of the MSWD or from any available funds of the town subject to usual government accounting rules and procedures. READ MORE


Olongapo City barangay bags bronze award in 2019 Tatak Barangay Practice. Barangay West Bajac-Bajac in Olongapo City bagged the Bronze Award in the 2019 Tatak Barangay Practice (TBP) in the recently concluded 2019 Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) Congress held last May 29-30, 2019.

The barangay’s winning entry, “Sentrong Sanayang Teknika ng Kabataan sa West Bajac-Bajac” is a skills training program for out-of-school-youths and unemployed young adults in the barangay says DILG Region 3 Director Julie Daquioag.

She says that it is the only program in the City of Olongapo and in the Province of Zambales that provides skills training to interested and qualified out-of-school youths and unemployed young adults. READ MORE


Barangays need to meet standards first before given ‘drug-cleared’ status. There are a lot of parameters to consider before a barangay is declared clear of illegal drugs,  says National Capital Region Police Office chief Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar after Metro Manila was named as one of the regions most affected by illegal drugs.
The parameters have to be taken into consideration seriously so that the barangays that have been previously declared as drug-cleared will not revert to a drug-affected barangay merely because of the presence of one drug user or one drug pusher, he added. READ MORE

Association of former QC barangay kagawads gets P1M financial aid.  The Quezon City government has granted P1-million financial assistance to the Quezon City Former Barangay Kagawad Foundation (QCFBKF) to support their various projects.

With the donation, the QCFBKF are now more financially liquid to extend aid and assistance to the community especially to its members who are former barangay councilors of the city.

Under the Local Government Code of 1991, the city government, through its chief executive and the city council, can provide assistance to people’s organizations and NGOs for economic, socially-oriented, environmental, or cultural projects to be implemented in their community. READ MORE

87 Iloilo barangays undergo DTI’s ‘Negosyo Serbisyo’ enterprise development program.  Eighty-seven barangays from 17 fourth to fifth class municipalities of Iloilo province were chosen for the “Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay” program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) this year.
DTI Assistant Regional Director Ermelinda P. Pollentes emphasized in a press conference the role and importance of barangays in encouraging an “entrepreneurial revolution” in their communities because it’s the only way we as a nation can compete with our neighboring ASEAN economies.
The DTI targets 100 participants for every batch of its ‘Negosyo Serbisyo’ activity. READ MORE

7 Bacolod barangays to get new ambulances.  Seven barangays in Bacolod City are set to receive new ambulances from the national government office. . 
These will be distributed to the seven barangays with no ambulance vehicle such as barangays Handumanan, Felisa, Cabug, Mansilingan, Banago, Tangub, and Pta. Taytay.
The ambulances, which cost P2.5 million each, will be turned over by the DOH soon according to Bacolod City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya. READ MORE

P137M Internal Revenue Allotment to be divided among 30 Dumaguete City barangays.  A total of P137.9 million Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) next year will be shared by all the 30 component barangays in Dumaguete City, ranging from P1.3 million to P8.7 million each depending on the size of the barangay.
The computation of IRA shares is based on the census of population taken in 2015 for each barangay and equal sharing of P1.2 million.
Under the Local Government Code of 1991, the barangays can budget and disburse their IRAs for honoraria of officials and employees, maintenance of health and day care centers, Katarungang Pambarangay, peace and order, electrical and water consumption in barangay facilities, among other services that will serve the public. Davao City SK official neutralized in drug buy bust. A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) official died after he was shot by a police undercover agent during a buy-bust operation recently at Barangay 28-C in this city.
Raymart Durias Duran, 23, single, was neutralized after engaging the police officer posing as poseur-buyer in a shootout. Recovered from Duran were three sachets of suspected shabu and a marked PHP500 bill.
Duran, also known as Alias Kagid, was identified as the suspect in a robbery incident based on information received by the police from the Barangay Intelligence Network and now, in peddling illegal drugs.  READ MORE
