Quezon City to beef up its Barangay Drug Abuse Council. The Quezon City government has intensified anew efforts to fight illegal drugs in the city and enlisted the assistance of volunteers at the barangay level.

Through the Quezon City Anti-Drug Abuse and Advisory Council (QCADAAC), incoming Mayor Joy Belmonte said it has ensured the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADAC) are performing their functions to the hilt.

“Under QCADAAC, we have been making sure that the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils or BADACs are functional and effective in their mandate to suppress illegal drugs and criminality at the barangay level,’’ Belmonte said.  READ MORE

Iloilo City barangay captain offers P10,000 reward from his own pocket for tips leading to arrest of a drug suspect.  A barangay in this city has offered a reward of P10,000 for information leading to the arrest of drug suspects in their area.
Posters announcing the reward are posted in strategic areas in Barangay Don Esteban in La Paz district.
Village councilman Reynaldo Brito said the reward is an initiative of barangay captain Rodrigo Dellomes to boost their campaign against illegal drugs. READ MORE 

1,129 barangay officials in hot water for failure to comply with Manila Bay clean-up order. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has asked 1,129 barangay officials to provide justifiable reasons for their non-compliance on a directive compelling them to participate in the Manila Bay clean-up.  
DILG Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Diño said the department has already issued show-cause orders to the concerned barangay officials.

Diño emphasized that the officials should explain why they should not be held liable before the Office of the Ombudsman for their failure to participate in the clean-up drive. READ MORE

Cebu City’s Barangay Binaliw “going crazy” over landfill. There appears to be confusion over the issue of operating a landfill in the barangay.  Cebu Daily News reported that some of its residents have been complaining of the foul smell that comes out of the landfill and there are even reports of respiratory illnesses among residents near the area.

In response, the Cebu City Health Office ordered a medical team to assess the situation and to check on the health of the residents.
The health office chief, Dr. Alma Corpin, said though that she had heard of the residents’ complaints but none of the barangay officials or even the residents themselves went directly to her office to report of the respiratory illnesses spreading in the barangay.
In another news report in Sun Star Cebu, the barangay captain of the barangay confirmed that there are no reported cases of residents getting sick because of the private landfill's operation in the village. READ MORE

Bukidnon barangay gets help from DOST in setting up communal water purification system. In Lantapan, Bukidnon, where Barangay Kibangay is situated, the incidence of diarrhea and amoebiasis is relatively high. It is for this reason why the Department of Science and Technology office in Region 10 and the Local Government Unit of Lantapan joined forces to find a solution to the water problem.
Through the DOST-initiated project “Tubig sa Kinabuhi” or water of life, a communal water purification system was established for both the indigenous people and settlers alike who are residing in the barangay.  READ MORE

Go wants to extend stay of barangay execs to two more years.  Incoming Senator Christopher “Bong” Go announced recently that he would push for a two-year extension on the current term of office of barangay officials that will end in 2022.

He said in his recent visit to victims of a fire that burned 103 houses and displaced 194 families in Barangay Ubaldo Laya in Iligan City that two years are not enough for barangay officials to implement their programs in the barangays.  READ MORE


SK in 7 Cebu City barangays get P1M each.  The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in seven Cebu City barangays will receive P1 million each to fund their projects and programs.

After the approval for the funding was deferred for one week, the City Council approved on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, SK Federation President Jessica Resch’s resolutions that grant P1 million each to the SKs in seven barangays.

Barangays Tejero, Bonbon, Toong, Sambag I, Kinasang-an, Punta Princesa and Babag will receive the aid that Mayor Tomas Osmeña promised the youth leaders during the campaign for the SK Federation elections.

13 Cebu City barangays to get brand new cars from City Hall.  A batch of barangays in Cebu City will get their donated vehicles from the Cebu City Government.
This after the City Council approved on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, 13 separate resolutions authorizing Mayor Tomas Osmeña to sign the deed of donation and acceptance for the vehicles in behalf of the City Government.
Earlier, the Council authorized the mayor to sign the deed of donation of vehicles for 25 barangays. Another set of resolutions covered 13 more barangays. READ MORE
Job opportunity offers goes to 900 barangays in Iloilo.  The Province of Iloilo has been strengthening its campaign to bring employment opportunities to the barangay level.

The program is meant to address the gap between job seekers and companies. Local residents can go directly to job fairs in their own towns instead of traveling all the way to Iloilo City, which entails money and long travel time.
The award-winning approach aims to get the participation of all barangays, according to Francisco Heler Jr., chief of the Public Employment Service Office or PESO of  Iloilo province. READ MORE

Isolated barangays in Misamis Occidental get ceramic water filters.  The Department of Science and Technology office in region 10 and the provincial government of Misamis Occidental turned over dozens of ceramic water filters or CWFs to address the needs of remote barangays in the province for safe drinking water.
The CWFs is a DOST-developed innovative technology that addresses the requirement of a simple, effective and economical water filter that can be used in the rural areas.
Barangay Lalud in Don Victoriano Chiongbian, the farthest municipality of the province, received 12 units while Barangay Sebucal of Oriqueta City received 13 units of this candle-type water filter which has an anti-microbial agent that eliminates disease-causing, waterborne microorganisms.
