Guimaras barangays now ready to handle civil registration of their constituents. After undergoing training on Barangay Civil Registration Systems conducted by the Association of Guimaras Municipal Civil Registrars and the Philippine Statistics Authority, One hundred sixty-five barangay officials are now ready to implement the system in their respective barangays in the province.
This is the first ever two-day training designed for barangay captains and secretaries in Guimaras to facilitate civil registration at the community level where barangay officials assist the city or municipal civil registrars in civil registration work, according to a Philippine Statistics Authority official based in the province of Guimaras Nelida B. 156 families in Barangay Punta, Sta. Ana Manila awarded with Certificates of Land Allocation. Land ownership is a dream fulfilled for these families residing in Barangay Punta in Sta. Ana, Manila when they were awarded Certificates of Land Allocation (CELA) for the land where their houses have been standing on for decades.
With the receipt of their CELA, these families in Punta can now move on to the titling process of their awarded lands by paying the monthly purchase price of P1,333 for 10 years. READ MORE

Bataan barangay gets free electricity for its basketball court. Officials of the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan signed a Supplemental Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Barangay Malaya to provide and subsidize a portion of its power consumption for its basketball court.
The Supplemental MOA commits AFAB to provide the lighting of the basketball court and shoulder its power consumption up to 256 kWh. Both parties recognize the importance of fully utilizing the basketball court in terms of health and social benefits. READ MORE

Ordinance requires Iloilo City barangays to form dengue task forces. Barangays are now mandated to establish dengue task forces following the passage of an ordinance calling for its creation down to village levels.
City Councilor Candice Magdalane Tupas, author of the ordinance, said the creation of task forces is significant because the City Health Office (CHO) could not do it alone considering the city has180 barangays in all. READ MORE
Bacolod City barangay SK Chair leaves post. The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman of Barangay 30 in Bacolod City Kerwin Dejole has resigned from his post effective May 17, 2019.
In his letter addressed to Director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag of the Department of Interior and Local Government office in Bacolod City, Dejole said that he will be resigning from his position as SK chairman due to a new job opportunity that awaits him.
The post of Dejole will be occupied immediately by the number one SK Kagawad of Barangay 30 Lyka Dela Pena who have already attended the mandatory SK training. READ MORE
9 Cebu City barangay SK request for P1million financial assistance each deferred by city council. THE Cebu City Council has deferred the approval of the nine resolutions that will supposedly allow the granting of P1 million each as financial assistance to the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in nine barangays.
A city councilor questioned some of the items in the proposals and believes the prices in the proposal were jacked up to reach P1 million, which is one of the requirements to get financial assistance. In one barangay for instance, a paint was estimated to cost P10,000 though it was not clear in the report if it is a can or cans of paint. READ MORE
Pampanga barangays discover income-sustaining livelihood in sampaguita growing. Around a small round plastic table, women in Barangay San Roque Dau Dos here are busy stringing sampaguita flowers in abaca strands. Their husbands pick “camia” and ilang-ilang flowers, while children as young as 5 years old help in making the garlands.
Indicating a new growing backyard industry in the community of more than 100 families in Lubao, sampaguita growing is also the livelihood of 400 other families in the barangays of other towns in Pampanga such as Guagua and Floridablanca according to Menandro de Mesa, president of Sampaguita Growers Federation. A new barangay created in Tabuk City, Kalinga. President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed into law Republic Act (RA) No. 11328 which created a new barangay in this component city to help in improving the delivery of services by the government to the people in the city.
The new law separated the sitios of Guina-ang, Madopdup, Mallango, Lanlana and San Pablo from barangay Lacnog in the city and constituting them into a separate and independent barangay to be known as barangay Lacnog West.
The law provides that the separated sitios that constitute the new barangay has an area of some 570.23 hectares. READ MORE
Barangays in Davao City still have unresolved boundary disputes. Several barangay boundary disputes in the city are still unresolved and a city councilor who chairs the Committee on Rules, Privileges, Laws and Ordinances is pushing for the continued settling of case in the incoming council.
Councilor J. Melchor Quitain said the continued settlement of boundary problems will remain a priority of the incoming set of new councilors. He said that there are still many items relative to the issue that remain unsolved. READ MORE
Manobo tribe leaders at the foot of Mt. Apo barangay allow geothermal power company to continue operating in their ancestral domain. With tribe leaders imploring their ancestors to bless the project site for the next quarter century, the Manobo people at the foot of Mt. Apo have allowed a power company to continue operating two geothermal plants in their ancestral domain.
In exchange for royalty from the company’s operation, the Manobo tribe granted Energy Development Corp. (EDC) free rein to tap geothermal energy in the area for the next 25 years, or until 2044. READ MORE
