Community center to rise in one of CamSur's poorest barangays



An Australian national, Bob Murray, who heads a foundation aimed to take people out of poverty is now building a community center in one of the poorest barangays in Bicol as a conduit to offer opportunities to the out-of-work housewives, non-landowners, the uneducated and the handicapped.


“This community center is a game changer,” said Bob of Muravah Foundation, an entity that adopts not just families but an entire community of Barangay Sua in the Municipality of Canaman, Camarines Sur. READ MORE


South Cotabato barangay troops to be deployed to contain insurgency


New members of Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) joined the government troops in maintaining peace and order in far-flung and mountainous areas of South Cotabato.

Col. Jones Otieda, commanding officer of the 27th IB Philippine Army, said that at least 200 new CAFGU will help the government contain insurgency in some of the communities in the province. READ MORE



Ten-year old boy drowns in milk in Mandaue City barangay

A 10-year-old boy was killed after he fell into a pit of liquid dairy waste in Barangay Tabok, Mandaue City on Saturday morning, Dec. 28.

Police are checking if the factory that dumped the waste is liable for the boy’s death. READ MORE

 

Comelec oks petition of 20 barangays in Cotabato to be included in Bangsamoro referendum

The Commission on Elections has approved the petitions of 20 barangays in Cotabato province seeking to be included in the referendum for the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The Comelec en banc granted the petitions as they have complied with all of the requirements under the law and the rules and have sufficiently established that its territory is contiguous to that of the local government units. READ MORE

 

Instead of peaceful mediation at the barangay, two feuding families in Basilan barangay chose to fight it out and kill each other to settle score.

Seven persons were killed, while five others were wounded when two feuding families engaged in a firefight Thursday night in a remote village in Hadji Motamad town in Basilan province.

Davao City mall gives something back to its community by throwing a party to the children of its "home" barangay

Every holiday season, it has been a tradition for Ayala Malls Abreeza to give back to the barangay it calls home by throwing a celebration for the community members who appreciate Christmas the most—the children.  

Dubbed Barangay Kids Day, the party saw 200 young ones from the resident families of Barangay 20-B of Davao City’s Poblacion District gather at Ayala Malls Abreeza’s Activity Center for an afternoon of games, gifts, and other goodies. READ MORE 

 

Instead of keeping the peace in his barangay, Nueva Ecija barangay kagawad allegedly hired a gunman to kill another kagawad

A 31-year-old kagawad was arrested Friday night for allegedly masterminding the murder of a colleague, who was gunned down by a motorcycle-riding gunman while attending the interment of a villager at the public cemetery in Barangay Poblacion here earlier.
The police reported that suspect Jervie Bondoc, another kagawad of Barangay Dimasalang Sur of Talavera town, Nueva Ecija, provided the gunman with information on the whereabouts of the victim, Ramoncito Magtalapa, 55. READ MORE.


Year two of Bacolod City's search for the most clean and green barangays to focus on waste segragation

THE City Government of Bacolod will hold another search for the cleanest, greenest, and most well-managed solid waste management (SWM) program this month.

Happens all the time.  Farmer in Iloilo barangay shot and killed by neighbor over a small vegetable plot.

A farmer was shot dead early Thursday morning in Sara, Iloilo over a small vegetable plot.
Police identified the victim as Ricky Nepomuceno, 49, a resident of Barangay Malapaya.
Nepomuceno’s neighbor, 31-year-old Rhake Are, owned up to the killing. He immediately surrendered to Malapaya’s barangay captain after the incident. READ MORE
