Barangay Old Balara in Quezon City wanted a quick fix to their growing dengue problem, so their solution was to release over a thousand frogs to the area to feast on the mosquitoes plaguing the area.

Lady lawmaker wants to empower barangays thru house bill she filed. Leyte Fourth District Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez filed a bill that would empower the barangays and their officials and would also develop and improve the general welfare of the residents.

The lady solon filed House Bill 4083 or “Magna Carta for Barangays Act of 2019” which seeks to promote, develop and improve the general welfare of the barangay and its residents, raise the economic and social status of barangay officials and to grant every barangay the basic facilities for decent, healthy and comfortable living.

The proposal also seeks to provide new measures that will protect its enjoyment of local autonomy to ensure the effective performance of its role as the primary planning and implementing unit of government programs, projects and activities and as a forum in which the collective views of the people in the community may be crystallized. QC barangay found encroaching on sidewalk demolished. Various national government agencies and the local government of Quezon City on Friday (Aug. 16, 2016) led the demolition of the Damayang Lagi barangay hall which has been encroaching on a part of a sidewalk.

QC Mayor Joy Belmonte revealed that the said barangay hall is only one of 17 other barangay offices that need to be demolished as it obstructs sidewalks and roads.

Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Danilo Lim, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director, Brig. Gen. Joel Esquivel led the clearing operations.

Over 80 barangays in Quezon City have been cleared of obstruction on roads and sidewalks, QC Mayor Joy Belmonte said Friday.

Gulayan sa Barangay Program for Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries launched in the Cordillera Administrative Region.  The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Agriculture (DA-CAR) to converge in the implementation of Gulayan sa Barangay for the Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries in the region on August 6, 2019 at the DA-CAR Conference Hall, Baguio City.

The new partnership with DA-CAR aims to strengthen and enhance the implementation of Gulayan sa Barangay of the Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries of DSWD-CAR who started their backyard garden as early as 2017. This initiative will eventually contribute to the improvement of the overall health of the Pantawid beneficiaries in the region. READ MORE

Pangasinan representative promptly acts on barangay resident’s complaint. “Lubak-lubak, madilim, mabato, maputik,” this was how Lalyn Anchera Pajarito, resident of Barangay Salomague Sur described her barangay road on her Facebook post at 10:29 PM of August 8.

Many commented on it, sharing their sentiments on the issue until it caught 2nd District Congressman Jumel Anthony I. Espino’s attention.

Calapan City Liga spearheads campaign against rising cases of dengue.  Members of the Calapan City Liga ng mga Barangay have zeroed in on the measures to take in order to combat the rising cases of dengue in the city of 62 barangays.

They have adopted the 4S strategy in fighting dengue:  Suyurin at sirain ang pinamumugaran ng mga lamok; Sarili ay protektahan laban sa lamok; Sumangguni agad sa pagamutan kapag may sintomas ng dengue; Sportahan ang fogging/spraying operations kapag may banta ng outbreak.

Liga ng mga Barangay President Dennis A. Rojas proposed in a meeting that the barangay officials should be on the frontline of the information campaign against dengue. READ MORE

Puerto Princesa barangay to host Coast Guard sub-station.  The Coast Guard District Palawan (CGDP) is putting up a sub-station for maritime law enforcement, environmental protection, safety, and search and rescue in the city’s Nagtabon Beach area in Barangay Bacungan where more than a few drowning incidents have been recorded lately.

Commodore Allen Toribio, commander of the CGDP, said this week that they are currently looking for an area in Bacungan where the substation can be constructed.

Toribio said during a recent interview with Palawan News that the particular goal is to help prevent more drowning incidents in the area where there are now emerging popular beach resorts.  READ MORE

Guidelines set for giving out incentives to Cebu barangay workers.  Barangay workers in the province are a step closer to getting double the amount of the incentives they are currently receiving from the provincial government.

The Provincial Board (PB) on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019, approved on second reading a proposed ordinance that aims to raise the yearend incentive of barangay tanods, health workers, nutrition scholars, animal health aides and daycare center volunteers.

The draft legislation was filed by PB Member Glenn Anthony Soco, who heads the committee on budget and appropriations. READ MORE

 
85% of Bacolod City barangays comply with road clearing directive. ABOUT 85 percent of the villages in Bacolod City already complied with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to rid public streets of obstructions to facilitate the orderly use of thoroughfares.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said Tuesday, August 20, of 61 barangays, most of them already demolished the illegal structures within their areas of jurisdiction.

He added that they are now consolidating the reports of the barangays to be submitted to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). READ MORE

102 IP youth participants from Agusan Del Norte attend Barangay Youth Leadership Summit.  One hundred two youths from Higaonon tribe were enlightened after undergoing a three-day stay-in Barangay Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) from August 9-11, 2019 at Lawan-lawan National High School, Barangay Lawan-lawan in Las Nieves town, this province.

During the activity, the youths were informed about the different programs of the government.

With the theme “Unite the Youth for a Brighter Future”, it included series of lectures from different stakeholders, small group discussions on Disaster Preparedness Orientation, Cultural Presentation, and Team-building activities. READ MORE
