Quick response of Pasig City barangay saves children's lives

 
Caught on CCTV were two children playing, lying down, and rolling around in the middle of a road in Barangay De La Paz, Pasig City as vehicles passed by caught the attention of village authorities, who rode to the area and put a stop to their life-threatening antics. According to Dani Tingcungco's report on Balitanghali Monday, the kids were almost hit by passing vehicles like tricycles, motorcycles and bikes.

“Halos muntik nang masagasaan ng bike yung bata tapos tinatakpan ng tarpaulin di makita. Delikado yun sa mga motorista kasi ikakaso pa rin sa kanila; kasalanan pa rin ito ng motorista kahit di nila alam na may bata,” Kagawad Jay Santiago said.

Barangay officers immediately responded to the area and rescued the children.

Their parents were invited to explain and undergo counseling. They were also warned by the barangay authorities against violating a city ordinance on neglecting children especially at night, which carries fines of up to P,5000 and one month's imprisonment.

“Neglect pa rin ng magulang yun kasi pinapabayaan nila yung mga bata. Yung asunto sa city ordinance na namin yun, ang sa amin, counseling,” Santiago said.

The parents said that it was the first time it happened and promised that they already talked to their children.“Di ko alam na yun yung ginawa nila na ganun paglalaro. Tinanong ko yung anak ko, bakit naman ganun nangyari? Sabi niya pa, sorry naglalaro lang kami. Di niya naisip na ganun yung sitwasyon,” one of the parents said. — Joviland Rita/BM, GMA News
