The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority
(TESDA) will be intensifying skills training on health-related qualifications
to produce more equipped and competitive healthcare practitioners.
TESDA Secretary Isidro LapeƱa reiterated this directive
during the 5th General Directorate Conference (GDC) via Zoom with the theme,
“TESDA Abot Lahat: Towards the New Normal” the agency’s main strategic plan
during this pandemic.
Each regional office presented its programs and catch-up
plans for the remainder of the year. These aimed to increase the number of
accredited competency assessors and assessment centers, particularly in the
health, agriculture and construction sectors.
The regional offices also presented plans to provide more
training programs in barangay health Services, health care services, and biomedical
equipment servicing through TESDA’s scholarship programs.
They also discussed how TESDA’s partnership with the DILG
may be expanded for the conduct of training for barangay healthcare workers.
TESDA currently has several training regulations for
health-related courses such as Health Care Services, Hilot (Wellness Massage),
Pharmacy Services, Biomedical Equipment Services, Massage Therapy, Emergency
Medical Services, Barangay Health Services, Caregiving, Ophthalmic Lens
Services, Dental Laboratory Technology Services, Dental Laboratory Technology
Services (Fixed Dentures/Restorations), Dental Laboratory Technology Services
(Removable Dentures/Appliances), Dental Hygiene, and Dental Technology.
These regulations set the standards for programs offered
in technical vocational education and training institutions in the country. (News content reposted from Manila Bulletin. Photo from BusinessWorld)
