Manila Mayor Ishko Moreno who made a surprise visit in Binondo Chinatown recently sledgehammered the barangay hall-turned barracks built beside the monument of Filipino-Chinese businessman Roman Ongpin.
The
said monument is one of the heritage sites that can be found in Manila.
He
told Chairman Nelson Ty of Barangay 289, Zone 27 after hammering the structure
that sites such as the monument of Ongpin must be respected because it is our
heritage.
Ongpin
was a Chinese-Filipino businessman who financed the Katipuneros during the

New bill to create Barangay Peace and Order Council filed. Senator Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa is seeking for the creation of the Community Peace and Order Council that will involve the barangay officials and their constituents in the prevention of crimes.
In
his Senate Bill No. 233, Dela Rosa, who served in the national police force for
over 30 years, underscored the vital role of the citizenry in effectively
preventing and suppressing criminality and maintaining public order and safety.
The
bill, which will be known as the "Barangay Community Peace and Order
Council Act," mandates every barangay to organize a Community Peace and
Order Council which will serve as the primary government institution that

New bill filed to amend existing law on barangay health workers’ benefits and incentives. Senator Leila De Lima has filed Senate Bill No. 185, or the Magna Carta for Barangay Health Workers, seeking to amend Republic Act No. 7883, also known as "Barangay Health Workers' Benefits and Incentives Act of 1995," to provide more benefits and compensation to community health workers.
She
said that she wants proper compensation and incentives be given to Barangay
Health Workers (BHWs) in the country, in recognition of their sacrifices and
tireless efforts in keeping communities healthy.
If
enacted into law, De Lima's measure will make BHWs an appointee of the
Municipal or City Mayor, entitling them to allowances and other benefits being
received by other appointed barangay officials.
Pangasinan barangay hosts
demo-farm to train “millennial” out-of-school youths and students. Some 100 out-of-school youth and students are
undergoing on-the-job training in a demo-farm at barangay Hermosa here, as
members of the Millennial Farmers Association of Bayambang (MFAB).
“Many
of the youth are no longer interested in agriculture as they see it dirty,
messy, and (requires) hard work, so we wanted to entice them since our town already
uses technologies or mechanization in farming,” says Angelica Andrea Garcia of Bayamang

Barangays key to solving Dagupan City worsening garbage problem – new city mayor. In an effort to get to the root of the problem, Mayor Brian Lim is planning to tour every single barangay in the city to consult with residents and find a solution for the city's growing garbage woes.
"Next
two to three months, we will make a schedule with barangay officials, and we
will tour and observe each barangay. No exemption," Lim said during the
first meeting of the Liga ng mga Barangay of the city under his administration.

“Rido” or family feud possible motive behind ambush-slaying of Maguindanao barangay captain. A Maguindanao barangay captain and two of his companions were killed in an ambush in Cotabato City Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Killed
were Datu Nurodin Mangandian Guiaman, 34, chairperson of Barangay Tuka in the
municipality of Mamasapano, together with his two companions, barangay
treasurer Sindatu Agao, Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) member Basser
Guiaman, 42.

CARAGA barangay officials empowered by the Department of Agriculture in implementing agri-development programs.
